I’ve been writing about my experience using red light therapy to treat lymphedema, which already has yielded some amazing early benefits in about 2 months of use. I’ll be reporting about longer-term benefits soon. In the meantime, I wanted to write a post about the red light panel I ultimately settled on-the MitoPro 1500-after researching the options.

The Science Behind Red Light Therapy: How the MitoPRO 1500 Works
Before diving into the nitty-gritty of the MitoPRO range, let’s look at the science behind red light therapy. This cutting-edge technology might seem like a fad, but it’s actually rooted in rigorous research and scientific evidence. In fact, according to a publication in the National Library of Medicine, as of 2016, over 4,000 laboratory studies have been conducted, and over 400 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trials had been published on this unique technology.
Red light therapy, also known as photobiomodulation, uses specific wavelengths of light to stimulate cellular activity. The light penetrates skin layers, reaching cells and rejuvenating them from the inside out.
Basically, as I understand it, the red light stimulates cells to act younger. Initially, most research was on skin. That’s not a surprise since red light therapy (mostly with lasers) had been in use in dermatologist’s offices for years for wound healing and other purposes. But as interest in this field has grown, there are now studies testing what else red light can benefit. The list is long and includes pain management, orthopedics, healing skin diseases, and even improvements in bigger systems, such as the circulatory and lymphatic systems.
I wrote a previous post on the current science of red light therapy and the lymphatic system that you may want to review if that is your primary concern. In a nutshell, research is starting to show that infrared light therapy can help boost the lymphatic system. In animals, it has already been shown to reduce swelling as well as actually help increase lymphatic cells to improve overall system functioning. Needless to say, exciting stuff for those of us who wrestle with lymphatic issues.
Even so, the benefits can go far beyond that as well.
Previous Experience Using Red Light For Skin Health
I was already a believer in this technology. Several years ago, I bought a red light therapy mask for its supposed anti-aging benefits. Well, based on my experience with over 50 skin, the promised benefits were real. After about a year of use, my skin started acting and feeling young again, and as I continued, it got better. I stopped using Retin A and no longer considered getting fillers or Botox. Really, the changes were amazing and now, about 5 years later, my skin still looks and feels far better than it did even 15 years ago. While, of course, it may be other factors as well, I saw huge improvements. I still use it most days, as it has been a game-changer for me personally.
I had wondered back then if this could help lymphedema. At that time, there wasn’t really any research out there–just some anecdotal stuff written by consumers. Now several years later, the entire field has come alive. Research money is flowing. And now, there are many full-body red light therapy panels available for home use, with many people raving about the benefits. Just type in “red light therapy” in Google or Youtube and you can see just how many people are using this technology. That motivated me to explore and wonder whether it can help those of us with lymphedema or other lymphatic disorders.
Exploring the Red Light Therapy Full Body Panel Approach
The lymphatic system is quite complex, and I figured it required more power than treating just the skin. So I started looking closely at full-body panels.
With a large panel, you can treat far more than one small part of your body. There are many companies producing them now. As I started digging, it seemed that most of the “leaders” were adding a whole lot of features to theirs. I’m a value shopper, so then I shifted to looking for more of the basics.
Once I dug more, it became clear to me that the MitoPRO 1500 provides one of the best values out there for a top-quality red light therapy device. It’s engineered to deliver optimal wavelengths of both red and near-infrared light in a safe manner. It lacks a bunch of extra features I didn’t need, so I was frankly very happy to have the option to not include those. I’d rather pay less for core functionality.
Ranked #1 in a Comparison of 12 Top Panels
A comparison of this panel by a red light panel expert helped me pick this one. This gentleman compared 12 top panels and found the MitoPRO 1500 the most powerful and best value based on several factors:
- Highest Power Overall. In this test, the MitoPRO 1500 recorded the highest overall power of any of the panels tested. From what I’ve heard from listening to some of the top researchers in the field, such as Dr. Michael Hamblin, sheer power is what you want for best results.
- Lowest EMF Output. Electrical devices can give off radiation, so we want to minimize that. Fortunately, the MitoPro came out last, which is good!
- Best Overall Value. This MitoPro 1500 came in as the overall best value when evaluated on the basis of power output in relation to price.

Key Features of the MitoPRO 1500
Overall, I found this one had the heavy-hitting features of the best panels without the big price tag. It does lack a few bells and whistles that I would not likely use, and from what I’ve read, power and safety are most important.
Here are some of the features it offers:
- Optimal Wavelengths: The MitoPRO 1500 provides a broad range of both red and near-infrared wavelengths – critical for reaching different depths of tissue. Any quality device should have this since you basically get two therapies in one device. (But don’t forget to protect your eyes since the near-infrared is not visible but can possibly be harmful if you look directly at it.)
- Bigger Coverage. In learning about red light therapy, some of the leading researchers noted that they recommend simply getting more of your body exposed to the light at once. This panel is much bigger than others at this price point, exposing more of your body directly to the light.
- Modular Design: These panels are a big investment, so it seems most people start with one and then often buy a second one. The modular design of the MitoPRO 1500 allows you to later connect multiple panels together if you would like to expand your system.
- High Irradiance: This panel delivers high irradiance for more effective results. This means more light is delivered to your body in less time. Again, more bang for the buck for less money is what impressed me.
There are other features that truly make the MitoPRO 1500 a cut above the rest.
- Simple Controls: Some of these panels have elaborate controls or require an app for use. With the MitoPRO series, operation is clean and simple. You simply choose the time and change other settings as needed, then press start. The panel automatically turns off. In today’s over-teched world, I appreciate this simplicity.
- Easy of Use: The MitoPro 1500 is not only efficient but also user-friendly. With just a few options and an easy-to-use digital interface, it’s a breeze to navigate through its features.
- Generous Return Policy: MitoRed has a great return policy. If you’re not pleased with the product for any reason, you can return it for no stocking fee within 60 days for a full refund. To me, this is an acid test. If they weren’t confident in their product, they would quickly go out of business with this type of return policy. Plus, for the rest of us as buyers, that’s just a huge benefit since these are a big investment.
- Responsive Support. I had narrowed my list down to 3 finalists. I emailed all three with questions. Mito’s support got back to me within an hour. The others took a few days. Then later, I had another question, and again, Mito’s support got back to me very quickly.

My Experience with Order, Setup and Use of the MitoPRO 1500
Ordering was fast and easy. I received confirmation of shipment right away, the next day. The panel arrived quickly, in just two days.
It arrived in very secure and heavy packaging. The panel itself is only 25 pounds so no problem moving it around.
All of these companies sell expensive stands for these, but I just put it on the floor. This is ideal for me. I just put a blanket next to it so I can lay down while I use it, then flip over and get the other side. I also usually will treat my upper and lower body separately when I have time so do 4 minutes per side for upper and lower (so 16 minutes total).
Keeping it on the floor makes it easy to use. I just listen to podcasts and the time flies by. I know everyone says to put it in your bathroom and stand there naked in front of it. But really? 🙂 That sounds like torture to me since it needs to be around 15 to 20 minutes. I find keeping on the floor far easier. Just remember to close the blinds! 🙂
When not in use, I just leave it turned off. My husband and I use it but it has had no noticeable impact on our energy bill.
Summary: Pros and Cons of the MitoPro 1500
In conclusion, I’m very happy with my purchase of the MitoPro 1500 Red Light Panel. Although I have not used it long, I”m already experiencing remarkable benefits, and it is definitely changing my lymphatic functioning which is amazing. I’m also getting huge benefits of pain relief for life’s aches and pains, and feeling way better.
I’ll provide more updates soon, but if you’re interested in giving this fascinating new technology a try, here’s a summary of my findings on this particular panel:
Pros:
1. Great value for the dollar…you are getting more power for less than competing panels.
2. Versatile and user-friendly design for targeted or full-body sessions.
3. Built-in safety features for worry-free usage.
4. Great support so you’re not waiting around for answers.
5. Great return policy, return it for a full refund within 60 days with no restocking fee if it doesn’t work for you.
Cons:
As of my experience to date, I have not encountered any notable drawbacks with the MitoPro 1500 Red Light Panel. One slight negative: after I bought this panel, I learned that some researchers are investigating using “pulsed” LED light. Some of the more expensive panels offered that, but this one did not. But really, that’s not well-studied yet, and would I even use it? That may or may not pan out as a legitimate better way to use red light in the future. For now the jury appears to be out.
Overall, the MitoPro 1500 Red Light Panel has been a fantastic investment in my health journey, and I highly recommend it to anyone seeking natural ways to enhance their health and lymphatic system functioning. Specifically, I find its combination of power and value a compelling option, and the 60 day return policy also was a big factor in my decision.

You mention putting the machine on the floor and using a blanket. Are you lying on top of the machine with the blanket underneath (between your skin and the machine)? I need visual clarification. Thanks!
Hi Genaw,
These panels are powerful so you want to stay about 6 inches away according to the manufacturer. I have the panel on its side. So you basically get on the yoga mat on your side, facing the panel (don’t forget the eye protection that comes with it). You’d do your treatment (I do 4 or 5 minutes), that gets the front of your body. Then, after time you chose, the panel will automatically shut off. Then, you just flip over to get your back and reach back and hit the start button.
Then, I also do the lower half of my body seperately, so I’ll reposition so my feet and legs are in front of it and do the same thing (once on the front, once on the back.) So whole treatment I’m doing is 16 or 20 minutes. That’s what’s been working well for me. Some people choose to hang the panel on a door and just stand in front of it which is quicker, but I find this quite comfortable and I can be productive too….listen to podcasts or do language lessons or whatever.
I posted a picture above with my panel and a yoga mat in front of it (I use that or a blanket), then I use the yoga block to rest my head on, or a pillow would probably be more comfortable.
Hope that helps!
